Ivana Song | Human Systems Strategist

My life isn’t perfect, neither am I. But what I’m exceptionally good at is seeing how our thoughts, feelings and actions intertwine with our relationships and the circumstances we live in, especially when it’s difficult to see the bigger picture from inside our own lives. That’s where my work begins.

How I understand human behaviour

I’ve been curious about people for as long as I can remember. That’s why I explore what shapes our thoughts, emotions and decisions, how we connect and drift apart, why we repeat familiar patterns, change our minds and often do the very thing we said we’d never do again.

My work brings together neuroscience, psychology, behavioural science, systems thinking and linguistics, alongside an understanding of emotional regulation, stress reduction, decision-making, identity and attachment.

Knowledge and lived experience

Much of what shaped the way I see people came from outside textbooks. I’ve worked in business and developed projects of my own. Learning sign language and working as an intervenor with deafblind people changed my understanding of communication and just how differently we can experience the same world. Music taught me about emotion. Writing taught me how the way we tell a story changes its meaning. Travel kept shifting my perspective, while caregiving showed me how many different needs, feelings and responsibilities can coexist in one person’s life. I learned from people across generations and from those whose lives were entirely different from mine. Those experiences deepened my respect for everything that shapes someone’s view of the world, much of which we never see from the outside.

Nature and animals are an important part of my life. Music remains one of the ways I experience the world and find beauty, meaning and hope, even through loss and uncertainty. For a long time, all of this seemed unrelated. Today, that knowledge and experience come together in the way I work.

What Human Systems Strategist means in my work

As a Human Systems Strategist, I look at behaviour within the context in which it develops, decisions in relation to how we see ourselves, communication within relationships and the ways pressure affects our work and performance. I explore how people shape the systems they live and work in, and how those systems shape them, because what looks like a single problem rarely exists on its own.

When a decision is difficult, the reason may lie in conflicting values, other people’s expectations or what that decision would mean for our sense of who we are. We may know what we want and still put it off because our choice would change a relationship that matters to us. Or keep taking on more responsibilities because we’re used to being the person everyone can rely on. Understanding what’s involved in that decision helps us see what keeps us living the way we do.

Who I work with and how

I work with people who want to change something, understand themselves better or see more clearly how to move forward. Sometimes they’re at a turning point in life. Sometimes nothing significant has changed on the outside, but what used to work for them no longer does. And sometimes the same question has returned often enough that they want to approach it differently.

MindJuMp grew out of this combination of scientific knowledge, lived experience and systems thinking. Through mentoring, strategic thinking and writing, I connect an understanding of human behaviour with the situations we encounter in everyday life. It matters to me that this understanding can be put into practice when making a decision, having a difficult conversation or facing pressure, when we’re most likely to fall back on familiar reactions. Mental clarity and emotional regulation are therefore central to my work.

What clients say

I approach my work systematically and thoroughly, with curiosity and room for humour. Clients describe discovering parts of themselves they hadn’t previously understood, recognising patterns that had kept them stuck and finding possibilities where they once saw obstacles. They also speak of relief, self-acceptance and greater trust in their own abilities. Sometimes they notice shifts in areas of life we haven’t worked on directly.
